Everyone experiences sweaty feet at some point to some extent whether it’s from wearing shoes made out of certain fabrics or individual constitution. But for some people, their sweaty feet problem is so bad that it stinks up their footwear, makes them slip and generally makes them very uncomfortable.
It may sound bad but it is not a medical problem that needs a doctor, unless you have seriously excessive sweating on your feet which reduce the quality of your life dramatically, in which case you should see your health care practitioner for a diagnosis. But generally, sweaty feet can be connected to a few causes and if you can pinpoint which one it is then you can considerably reduce sweating and make the problem quite manageable.
How To Get Rid Of Sweaty Feet
You’ll only know what the cause is once you try eliminating some things and then register a difference. So let’s see what you can do to lessen or avoid sweaty feet.
Cut Down of Certain Foods
There is a link between heavy sweating and consumption of certain kinds of foods. For example, caffeine from soft drinks, energy drinks, tea and coffee are known to increase sweating. So you may find that simply cutting down on them or getting rid of them altogether helps you to get rid of your sweaty feet problem. Also try cutting down on alcohol, very spicy food, very oily food and non-vegetarian dishes as these too contribute to excessive sweating.
Check Your Medication
If you’re the type that pops pills everyday, then it is possible that your sweaty feet are just a side effect. Talk to your doctor about known side-effects of all the prescription and non-prescription medication you are on.
Do You Need to Detox?
Sweaty feet could be an indication that your system is so full of toxins that your body is going crazy trying to push them out through every avenue available. If you know from your lifestyle and habits that your body may indeed be full of toxic garbage, then invest some time, energy and will power into taking a detox path for awhile whether it’s through food changes, an exercise routine, cutting down on bad habits, getting more sleep, cutting nasty people out of your life, dealing with your stress head on, or, preferably, all of the above. You’d be surprised by how many of your physical and mental problems can disappear with a life detox plan; your sweaty feet could just be one of them.
Footwear Tips To Get Rid Of Sweaty Feet
Here’s where it all begins for most people. Maybe the material your shoes are made out of is, unknown to you, trapping heat in your feet and making you sweat. Or maybe the material is the kind that reacts with the regular amount of sweating that your feet do (and yes, everyone sweats on their feet) and makes it a worse problem.
- The idea with footwear, whether you have sweaty feet or not, is to keep your feet dry or to have a layer of something that creates a barrier between the sole of your foot and the raw material of your shoe. You can do this with cotton socks, shoe liners or shoe inserts specially designed for sweaty feet. You should get all these at any well-stocked shoe store.
- Try changing your shoes two to three times a day. Carry an extra pair to work and change into them maybe after lunch. Change your socks too. That way, any moisture accumulating from sweat doesn’t exacerbate your sweaty feet and make the problem worse. Always wear clean, fresh socks. This is one place where recycling won’t do you any good.
- Sweaty feet generally mean smelly feet too. And that’s what makes the affliction so embarrassing for those affected by it. There are foot powders and foot deodorants especially made for sweaty feet. The powders keep you dry and the deodorants keep the odors away in case your feet start sweating too much. These should be a part of your daily foot care routine. Instead of foot powders, you can also use regular talcum powder or corn starch.
Take Care of Your Feet
Sometimes, you may have sweaty feet simply because your feet need a good wash and scrub. Not the kind where you just run them under water and douse them with soap but a good, exfoliating scrub with a pumice stone, scraper, foot brush or even just a loofah if that’s all you’ve got (although that last won’t be very effective). Scrubbing your feet will help slough off dead skin cells and reveal newer skin underneath. You’ll find that if you do this often, maybe every week or ten days, your feet will even smell less.

Something else you can do to help with sweaty feet and the smelling that follows is to soak them regularly in warm water mixed with baking soda and salt, or just plain Epsom salts.
And here’s something really simple that you should try – dry out your feet thoroughly after a bath or after you wash them, let them air for a bit, and only then put on your shoes.
It’s important to get sweaty feet under control as soon as it surfaces because it can lead to injuries, blisters and infections since moisture on the feet become a breeding ground for bacteria.
