“Pink” for Breast cancer in October
It is an initiative started in August of 2006, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. October is the month of Breast Cancer Awareness.
In October, websites all over the world change their templates pink so as to emphasis the essence of a healthy life and to generate knowledge and awareness over the issue.
Pink for October is credited to Matthew Oliphant. He came to know that October is a month of breast cancer awareness when he surfed other sites to defend a pink color that he had featured in his joke site, for a co-worker, and had attracted criticism from the co worker.
HE then said the following on his blog in a post and on other forums:
"So much pink around… maybe we should pinkify our sites for Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is October… Could publicise it, get more traffic, accolades, etc. Plus raise awareness of Breast Cancer research, raise money… It could be a fun group activity that also helps a good cause.Would that be of interest to anyone?"
