Aglet / Aiglet
Aglet / Aiglet means “needle”. An aglet is a small plastic or metal piece attached at both the ends of a shoe lace making the ends firm, sharp and pointed like a needle. These are also found attached at the ends of cord or drawstrings.
Materials used:
Plastic, metal and glass
Functions:
- An aglet helps the lace from unraveling.
- The narrow, sharp ends helps to thread the laces into the shoes.
Lace aglets can be created at home by using wax, glue, heat shrinkage or melting the ends of the lace.
Aglets following these techniques are also called as: Adhesive tape aglets, wax anklets, thread and glue aglets and metal tubing aglets.
