Achkan
The incorporation of British clothing styles into the Indian attire, evolved a garment called the Achkans.
An Achkan is a men’s long, coat like garment which features long sleeves, full front button closure and high round neck.
The neckline is often referred to as Nehru or Chinese collar.
It is worn in combination with churidaars.
It is also a grooms wedding attire in North India and Pakistan and is made up of rich light and fine fabrics. It is also considered as a traditional formal attire worn on formal occasions.
Look wise Achkans resemble sherwani, the difference lies in the length and flair. Sherwani is longer than Achkan and exhibits a wider flair.
The collars, edges and seams of Achkan are often embroidered to give it a rich look.
