The mascara is one of my favorite products when it comes to makeup. This tiny tube can create wonders.
The first thing that you usually notice in a person’s face is their eyes, in fact there are so many songs, poems and stories that bear testimony to this fact. It is not without reason that eyes get talked about so often.
So, where does mascara come in this story? (Isn’t this what you are thinking right now!) Well, if you know how to use the mascara correctly, you don’t even have to rely on eye shadows and kohls. Your peepers will look big, bright and elongated, and every other good adjective used to describe eyes in literary marvels, and all this with the help of the mascara.

I will talk about certain tips to apply the mascara, which have been totally tried and tested by me, which will ensure that your lashes not only look long and curled, in fact they will end up looking like false eyelashes (in a good way, that is). In fact, yours truly has been the recipient of the statement “are you wearing false eyelashes” many times.

To get started, you need only one thing – your tube of loyal mascara and nothing else, yes that is right…we don’t need eyelash curlers, or heated spoons and the like.

The first rule that you need to know is that, there is nothing like too much of mascara. So, pay no heed to tutorials that say apply “2 or 3 coats of mascara” – because you definitely are not getting Cleopatra lashes with that advice!
The second rule is bend the mascara wand from where the brush is, so that it somewhat resembles the “L” shape. (Take care not to break the wand when you do this!) So basically, you will have to make the wand slightly angled.
The third rule is hold a small mirror at your chest level and look at that while applying the mascara, and not into the dressing table one. This not only ensures that you know exactly how the end effect is coming along, but also there are lesser chances of wet mascara touching your eyelid.
Steps to Get the False Eyelash Effect with Only Mascara
-
Start by applying three coats of mascara to only the base (or root) of the eyelashes. What you do with this portion of the eyelashes is the only thing that matters initially. So, you need to lift each lash, or rather each bunch of lashes, with the mascara.
-
After the first three coats, extend the mascara wand further and apply mascara from the base to the tip of the eyelashes.
-
When you go towards the tips, make sure you use a slight ziz zag pattern with the wand. This will ensure that the lashes don’t get clamped together; because we don’t want clumpy, clustered, untidy spider lashes (unless that’s what you are aiming for).
-
If you see clumps forming, use the tip of your finger to separate by gently rubbing against them or using an eyelash comb.
-
Also ensure that you pay attention to the lashes at the extreme outer corner of your eye. Extend them outwards with the wand.
-
You can go on applying coats till the wand has to be dipped back in the mascara. What you don’t want to do is go on dipping the wand back into the mascara after every coat. Rather, dip it only once and go on applying it till all the mascara from the wand is on your lashes.
-
End the mascara session by applying 1 or 2 coats gently on the lower eyelashes, these babies don’t need much.
-
Next, proceed with the rest of your makeup/hairstyle/dressing up or simply wait for 5 minutes, letting the mascara dry.
-
Once you are done with your makeup (at which point the mascara will be quite dry), take both your index fingers and hold them horizontally against the lashes of both the eyes, right at the base. Now, gently push back (and also slightly upwards) till you feel all the lashes pressing against your eyelids and count to 100 fast. Once you are done with this, you will see that your eyelashes look longer and curlier.
