The Maaji show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2014 at the Raleigh on July 21, 2013 in Miami Beach, Florida was a delight. It was a debut collection for the brand at this fashion week. The Colombia based brand called its line as “Chimeric Wayfarer” which included women’s swimwear and lingerie, as well as a sneak-peek to the brand’s first collection for men. The collection was used to represent and discover a place where the impossible is possible. Key words like adventure, experimentation and mystery were prevalent throughout the show.

“Expect the unexpected” was the style which was coming across in the collection. There was a mix of prints, fabrics, laces and innovative cuts for the runway collection. The best part of this brand is that it makes completely reversible swimwear. There was an element of fantasy which was brought about through these standout pieces. The most unique aspect of the styling being the introduction of an edgy collar to swimwear! This detail added an element of freshness and distinction to the look. Some collars where basic, some were over exaggerated and some were more than just a collar! One can opt for these stylish additions anytime, anywhere. They can be teamed up with bikinis, halters, triangle tops, tankini, monokinis or one shoulder swimwear.

Do it yourself:
These simple steps can help you create the perfect collar for your swimwear.
Things you need:
- Old shirt (men/ women/ school uniform) with its collar in a good condition
- Scissors
- Lace/ embellishments
- Needle and thread
- Pretty buttons
How to make:
- Start off by taking the shirt and removing its collar very carefully. Finish the raw edges neatly if required.
- Now that the collar is detached, you may consider embellishing it with laces or stones according to your choice. You can attach the laces on the sides or use embellishments on the surface.
- The collar button originally on the shirt can be changed to a nice mother of pearl button or any pretty one, to make it more glam.

Note: If the shirt is of a slightly sheer material, you might try cutting the shirt till the shoulder caps to give a cape kind of effect.
Team it up with anything you want. You can go for a basic shirt to create this or you may think of using that old shirt of yours that had an interesting collar and has not been in use. This will add a lot to the look without making you trying too hard. Now you just need to wear a smile and you are sorted!
