Resort wear collections are a relaxed and a fun take on fashion with new trends every year valid through the year. Major fashion houses of the world today have seized the need for glamorous holidays and come up with their inspired collections of shorts, sundresses to evening dresses. Swimwear of course forms an integral part of the deal. The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 at the Miami Beach was the perfect platform for the handpicked swimwear designers who established the tastes and the choices for swimwear this year. From the lacy options to bridal swimwear, all was spotted at the fashion week.
Nicolita Swimwear Collection
Nicolita, launched in 2003 by Nicole Di Rocco, a Cubanita, showcased a collection taking inspiration from the roots of her country at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The Spring/Summer collection was pretty reflective of the trends for 2012 that surfaced at the fashion week overall and yet very eclectic in its own way.
The Collection
Titled “Sabor Tropical” or “Tropical Flavour”, Nicolita S/S 2012 Swimwear Collection oozed the tropical essence of the exotic Cuban culture and colors from the 1940’s to 1950’s when Nicole’s parents lived in Cuba. The swimwear range has been crafted keeping in mind the curves of the Latino women whose body type is well understood by Nicole. Tropical prints, nautical inspiration and vibrant colors, all formed a part of the collection and give us a feel of the jazzy Havana. All the looks were well put together with perfect accessories.
Highlights of the Collection
Color: The colors used for the Nicolita S/S 2012 were vibrant and demonstrated the moods of the Havana streets. Incidentally they were also in sync with the forecast for the year 2012. Colors from nautical blues to tangy oranges, flowery pinks to sunny yellows, hot reds to tropical greens were part of the swimwear collection and depicted the fun spirit of the tropical country. The collection showed variety by showcasing not just solid colour pieces but nautical color scheme and rainbow color scheme as well.
Prints: The prints that dominated the Nicolita swimwear collection overall were polka dots, stripes and tropical flora.
Polka dots, which have a cheerful character, reflected the same along with adding a touch of the retro 50’s Cuban feel to the swimwear collection. The dots definitely have the knack to catch anyone’s eye. The collection had white dots over cobalt blue which added merry to the collection.
Stripes dominated the Nicolita Swimwear collection this year in more ways than one. Multicolor stripes of pink, white, blue and yellow over the classic black transformed the otherwise classic piece into something edgy which is what one usually demands out of a swimwear. The classic red stripes over white paired with hint of navy blue perfectly executed the feel of the nautical inspired piece. Plain yellow stripes over white were also a part of the collection.
Pattern: Having roots in Cuba Nicole definitely understands the Cuban body shape and its needs. Her swimwear pieces flatter a women’s body as they are created keeping in mind not just the look but the feel of the wearer. Swimwear is an intimate garment and fit indeed plays a crucial role. Nicolita pieces are conservative and sexy. The pieces emphasize on the no pinch fit by layering the elastic between the fabrics. The bottoms are wide and that’s what makes it so comfortable.
Patterns like one shoulder style, bandeaus, straps and halters all were part of the swimwear collection. The solid orange color one shoulder is very stylish and very feminine and edgy with the ruffles on it.
Nicolita’s swimwear collection had bandeau bikini tops in pink , red, polka dotted blue and nautical style white and red. Bandeau tops are straight strapless tops which help one avoid the ugly tan lines. Feminine ruffles were the major trend that emerged at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 as a lot of designers had used it in their collections and it was very much a part of Nicolita’s collection too. Ruffles not only add a girly touch to the swimwear but also aid in concealing what you want to. They seem to have a good slimming effect.
The fashion week also saw another trend emerging-that of the high waist bikinis. A perfect option for those who don’t want to reveal too much, Nicolita’s collection had the high waited piece in the nautical theme with really cute buttons to accessorize.
The sheer coverup had the tropical print which is a very vibrant and a striking piece.
Accessories: The accessories Nicole chose to use with her striking swimwear collection are definitely worth a mention and one cannot definitely help noticing those. Heavy bangles ,cuffs and hoops in bright colors definitely add drama to already bright pieces. Pearls were Nicole’s choice for the subtle nautical pieces. Those over sized pearl tops definitely scream for attention too and in a good way. Statement necklaces were the perfect match for the solid color pieces and definitely completed the look.
However, it was the head gear that really dominated the overall look. The huge bows, the turban like headgear and tropical flowers definitely add to the fun and Cuban feel of the collection and personalize it for Nicole.
Bright Pink Lipstick: The make-up was otherwise understated with the bright pink lipstick a uniform for all and added to the freshness.
The collection overall was very cohesive with the trends that emerged at the fashion week and with comfort being the prime factor driving the collection it definitely qualifies to be a beach rage for the year 2012.
