We wonder whether pop singer Colette Carr was not loved enough as a child. One would think not, judging by her dressing style at Nickelodeon’s 2011 TeenNick HALO Awards held at the Hollywood Palladium on October 26, 2011 in Los Angeles, California; her ostentatious and highly busy attire screamed for attention, which it did indeed get although not in the way that she hoped for.
Let’s take a look a closer look at that dress, if it can be called that. The light baby pink spaghetti-strap outfit had a jewel-encrusted, snug bodice which suited her blonde hair and baby-faced features. So far, so good. But the further south you get with her outfit, the more you want to roll your eyes in consternation.
The lower half of the dress was made up of fluffy lace in the same light baby pink color as the bodice. The skirt was cut at a steep angle and looked like it had been hacked away by a blunt instrument. The lowest bit of it trailed along like a side tail or a wounded animal.
And those shoes! Enough to make anyone want to shake her cartoon style and ask her what she was thinking. The platform heels of the Converse-style shoes had blue, yellow and pink stripes. The upper part of the shoes were a bright sunny yellow – and that was heavily embellished with stones and jewels. It got hoots and cheers from the paparazzi when she showed them off, but they are sure to have changed their minds when they got sober in the morning.
There is one thing you have to appreciate about Colette though – she wholeheartedly sticks to the road she takes. This was apparent in the amount and variety of accessories she wore – a couple of multi-colored chunky bracelets on each of her hands, a few rings, and a large glittery pink pendant with the later N emblazoned in blue. The 20-year-old seemed to be aiming for funky, but instead looks like a live endorsement of a dozen mismatched kids’ fashion stuff. Really, sweety, you have money now. Hire someone to dress you up if you don’t know how to do it yourself.
Finally, we come to makeup and hair. The We Do It hitmaker went with bright red lipstick and dark eye makeup. From the neck up, she looked quite decent. Absolutely gorgeous and silky blond, her hair was left loose and straight, parted in the middle with a very trendy front-braid holding her hair back. Very cool.
Get The Look
Although Colette’s look here is a disaster, we can thank her for teaching us a very important fashion lesson. You ready for it? Here goes – look in a full-length mirror before you step out of the house! Really, this simple little trick will prevent you from embarrassing yourself in public. It’s the secret all the fashionistas don’t want you to know. Try it for yourself and give us your feedback.
That being said, Colette’s look was not all bad. It could have been salvaged if she hadn’t worn that dress and she hadn’t chosen those shoes, and she hadn’t worn those… OK, who am I kidding – this can’t be salvaged. Do not emulate.
