We reported earlier this year that actress Gwyneth Paltrow was going to be taking over as producer of the Stand up to Cancer telethon in the US after its founder, Laura Ziskin, died of cancer in 2011. Now, Paltrow wants to take it one step further by organizing a similar telethon on Channel 4 in London by teaming up with Cancer Research UK.
Paltrow is very passionate about this telethon as her own father succumbed to the disease in 2002. She said that the telethon’s goal was to unite not just doctors and scientist’s doing research into a cure but also patients who were suffering from the disease so as to completely transform the way that we fight the big C. Since 2008, the telethon has contributed close to $200 million towards cancer research.
Actors Samuel L. Jackson and Julia Roberts, among other esteemed celebs, will be hosting the event on US shores. The hosts for the UK event have yet to be announced.\
