Konkona Sen Sharma Goes International – Joins Carlos Bardem in Comedy Feature Mis(s)chief

November 23, 2024 by sarita

Indian actor Konkona Sen Sharma is set to make her mark in international cinema with a starring role in the upcoming comedy film Mis(s)chief. The film, which was recently revealed at the Film Bazaar in Goa, will see Sen Sharma opposite Carlos Bardem, brother of the acclaimed actor Javier Bardem, known for his role in El Cid.

Mis(s)chief is a collaboration between U.K. and India-based production company Avani Films and is currently in development. The film has already made significant strides, having advanced to the second round of the 2025 Sundance Development Labs, where it was selected as a curated entry.

Plot and Concept: cinem

The film follows Rumi, a mother of two trying to carve out a successful career as a filmmaker while juggling the challenges of a failing marriage, a gangland bullet (due to her unwittingly annoying a gangster), and the relentless demands of her children’s homework. The story is described as a comedic exploration of the challenges women face as they balance career ambitions and motherhood.

Team and Vision:

The film will be directed by Anu Vaidyanathan, a filmmaker who is also the writer behind the project. Vaidyanathan expressed excitement about casting Konkona Sen Sharma, noting that her “lived experience” as a mother and actor makes her the perfect fit for the role of Rumi. “Having witnessed life on both sides of the camera as an actor and a director, I am thrilled to have two legendary actors, Konkona and Carlos, to help me bring this story and these characters to life,” Vaidyanathan said.

British filmmaker Peter Webber, known for Girl With a Pearl Earring, is attached as the executive producer, and the film will feature an international cast, with Emmy-nominated casting director Nancy Bishop handling the casting process.

Konkona Sen Sharma’s Enthusiasm:

Sen Sharma, who is known for her versatile roles in films like Wake Up Sid and Killer Soup, expressed her delight in joining Mis(s)chief, particularly appreciating the comic premise and the film’s focus on women’s representation. She said, “I am delighted by the comic premise, the representation of women, and the writing itself.”

A Promising International Venture:

Mis(s)chief promises to be a unique blend of humor, heartfelt moments, and cultural nuance. With an international team behind it, including Sen Sharma and Bardem in pivotal roles, the film is poised to make waves in the global cinema landscape. As the project moves through its development stages, all eyes will be on how it progresses, particularly with its inclusion in the prestigious Sundance Development Labs.
