Indian actor Konkona Sen Sharma is set to make her mark in international cinema with a starring role in the upcoming comedy film Mis(s)chief. The film, which was recently revealed at the Film Bazaar in Goa, will see Sen Sharma opposite Carlos Bardem, brother of the acclaimed actor Javier Bardem, known for his role in El Cid.
Mis(s)chief is a collaboration between U.K. and India-based production company Avani Films and is currently in development. The film has already made significant strides, having advanced to the second round of the 2025 Sundance Development Labs, where it was selected as a curated entry.

The film follows Rumi, a mother of two trying to carve out a successful career as a filmmaker while juggling the challenges of a failing marriage, a gangland bullet (due to her unwittingly annoying a gangster), and the relentless demands of her children’s homework. The story is described as a comedic exploration of the challenges women face as they balance career ambitions and motherhood.
Team and Vision:
The film will be directed by Anu Vaidyanathan, a filmmaker who is also the writer behind the project. Vaidyanathan expressed excitement about casting Konkona Sen Sharma, noting that her “lived experience” as a mother and actor makes her the perfect fit for the role of Rumi. “Having witnessed life on both sides of the camera as an actor and a director, I am thrilled to have two legendary actors, Konkona and Carlos, to help me bring this story and these characters to life,” Vaidyanathan said.
British filmmaker Peter Webber, known for Girl With a Pearl Earring, is attached as the executive producer, and the film will feature an international cast, with Emmy-nominated casting director Nancy Bishop handling the casting process.
