Several celebs flew to the party capital of the country for the inauguration of the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which took off in Goa, India on November 20, 2013.

Hollyood actress Susan Sarandon was the chief guest at the event. She lit the ceremonial lamp, thereby off-setting the 11-day festival. She wore a pink outfit with minimal ethnic jewellery and a brown shawl.

Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parriker and Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari were also a part of the inaugural ceremonies. Legendary Kathak dancer Birju Maharaj put on a 30-minute performance right after.
Rani Mukherji was a part of the audience looking resplendent in a beige sari with lovely gold detailing on the border, and a gold blouse to match. She accessorized the outfit with a multi-chain pearl necklace, a thick gold kada and striking gold cuff earrings.

Young Alia Bhatt took time out of her schedule to be at the event. Her heavily brocaded black, white and gold ensemble was to die for as were her huge dangle earrings.

This year’s IFFI will also be celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema. The Indian government has introduced a special Centenary award to mark the occasion. Bollywood actor Waheeda Rehman was the first actor to be honoured with the award for Film Personality of the Year, conferred up on her by Rani Mukherjee. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Jiri Menzel, a Czech film director.

The IFFI will go on till November 30. It will consist of hundreds of screenings of foreign films, and exchanges between people of different cultures.
