Designer duo Meera and Muzaffar Ali showcased their collection “Pearl of Orient” on the second day of the Aamby India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 in New Delhi.

The collection took its inspiration from the rich Nawab culture of Awadh. What came across on the ramp was classy elegance, which is a trademark of the designers. There were no OTT pieces, typical bridal bling or loud colors. Instead, one saw a subdued color palette that mostly revolved around golden, peach, white, beige and black.
On showcase were anarkalis, shararas, sarees, lehengas, skirt-lehengas and the farshi pyajama which made their own understated statement! One could see the play of exquisite zardozi and chikan work on fabrics such as velvet, chiffon, brocade and georgette among others. The collection also stayed true to its name with the judicious use of pearls on the individual attires. This is definitely a collection which has a timeless appeal.
Some of the interesting trends that we picked up from the collection are:

There was a varied use of this combination and it was seen on lehengas, anarkalis and shararas. However, each piece was crafted with its own unique take on the black and beige/gold combination.
Beige on Beige Play

The beige on beige play showed that brides can look royal even in subtle colors. The designer duo showcased how a bride doesn’t always have to sport traditional Indian bridal hues, in order for the outfit to look rich.
Anarkalis Paired With Straight Pyajamas

Anarkalis teamed with straight pyajamas instead of churidars caught our eye.
Vibrant Lehengas with Subdued Cholis

We also saw colors like maroon and red make an appearance on lehengas amidst the primarily gold hues dominated ramp. However, the vibrant colors were underplayed by the cholis, which featured intricate work but were in subtle shades.

This is a trend that has been increasingly marking its presence on the fashion scene, and was seen in the Pearl of Orient collection too.
Contemporary Lehengas

The contemporary lehengas were like a breath of fresh air. The highly esteemed designer couple interpreted the layering concept, which is really in trend right now for lehengas, with their own twist.

The result can be best described as indo-western wear with more inclination towards a western style, due to the use of a sheer ruffled overcoat which had a very gothic feel to it, albeit in beige.
