Yes, we expect to see Bollywood celebrities at any fashion event worth its salt. One, two, sometimes three A-listers will walk the ramp for a famous designer. But 30?! That would have to be a really special show! And indeed, it was!

Vikram’s collection was inspired by and dedicated to rural India – the very crux of the country as it stands today. A worthy cause to wholeheartedly show support for which is perhaps why so many famous faces agreed to showcase his work including Ayushmann Khurrana, Ileana D`Cruz, Neha Dhupia, Farah Khan (both the choreographer who broke into an impromptu dance as well as the jewellery designer who beamed shyly during the catwalk), Sanjay Khan with his wife Zarine, Ekta Kapoor, Kiran Rao, Anurag Basu, Dia Mirza, Malaika Arora Khan, Jitendra, Juhi Chawla, Kunal Kapoor, and Sophie Choudhary.

It was a show like no other at the week-long extravaganza. Apart from the 30 stars and the expected professional models, several young members of the Swades Foundation – mostly children – also walked down the runway in Phadnis’ designs. Not to mention that many other Bollywood celebs showed their support by turning up for the unique show.
All the clothes in the line had a rural element to them. Fabrics, embroidery and even fashions from rural India were incorporated into the traditional collection which ranged from saris and lehenga-cholis for the ladies to kurta pajamas and sherwanis for the guys.
Phadnis’ collection was more than just fashion – it was an outright celebration. Maybe that’s why the show turned out to be so emotional but also very uplifting!
