It was another successful Western-Indian fusion experiment at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2013 on March 13 when designer Anupama Dayal’s latest collection was presented.

Summer shades were pre-dominant – hues of orange, yellow, pink and blue making bold statements – but the monochrome palette was not ignored either.

Anupama showcased salwar kameezes, saris, anarkalis, and several outfits inspired by these traditional Indian clothes.

One of the most eye-catching outfits was a pair of blue loose-fitting pants with a choli top, the latter feminine and highly provocative thanks to the stringy tie-ups defining the back.

Another Western-Indian fusion that is sure to be appreciated by purists and liberals alike was a sea-foam green dress that mimicked the silhouette of an anarkali but had a much more Western feel to it.

An ethnic-styled beach cover-up – flowy, sheer and earthy – will probably be a must-have at pool sides and beaches this summer.
We weren’t expecting much in the hair and makeup department since flawless skin and neutral lips have dominated on the ramp for some seasons. However, Anupama did make her mark by portraying bold peepers – eyeliner extending from the lower lashes into a Cleopatra-esque cat’s eye sweep.

Swept back hairdos were to be expected – you can’t have attention-grabbing styles when the outfits themselves are so full of life. The neat buns and textured updos brought much elegance to the catwalk.
The accessories were another point of interest – pearl strings with flowers and old 20-paise and 10-paise coins forming a center piece, just in case anyone had any doubts that this collection is inspired by India. The unique accessory was employed as a necklace as well as a head ornament, the latter giving an almost royal finish to the looks.

Hair accessories, in fact were an integral part of the collection – floral head bands, dangling head ornaments and scarves transforming many of the models’ auras.
All in all, it was a collection that any modern designer would be proud of.
