Top Knots for the Grand Indian Look

September 4, 2012 by sarita

Good style often is a blend of various entities that perfectly match together to achieve a result with an impact. These entities can be of the same school of aesthetics or can be strikingly different from each other. Getting these together to talk of one story is an art and if done right it leads to a good style story. The Indian fashion theory for the approaching Fall was hinting towards an interesting style statement where modern blended well with traditional in the form of a sleek hairdo with ultimate traditional delights.

Top knots hairstyle for grand indian lookSpotted at two major runway shows staged by Nimish Shah & Gaurang Shah at the Lakme Fashion Week 2012 Winter/Festive, the sleek edgy top knot added beautifully to the elegance and drama of the vibrant Indian wear that the look was instantly acceptable. Indian attires are elaborate and have minute head to toe details. Keeping the hair away brings out the complete beauty of the outfit and displays the well crafted details on the neck and the shoulders which is dampened by the loose hair. This is a good reason why different styles of the plain buns are not aliens to the traditional approach of dressing and the sleek top knot formed a great modern variation to the expected by also meeting the functionality and reflected high fashion.

Styling Tips:

Since the hair is swept away from the face and that too in a tight bun, there is a lot of room for accessorizing. It is preferable to keep the make-up soft considering the colors of the bright Indian outfits. Take a cue from the two shows itself that used the glamorous ‘bindi’ to lift up the look and add character to it. It is the face that needs attention and the other way of accessorizing it is to opt for a nose ring that fills it up. One can go for both if the outfit is aesthetically heavier to accept the rest.

One can choose to have the top knot right on the top of the crown which is a classic but if you are in for experimentation then a knot aligned towards one side is edgier and definitely a twist to the usual that will instantly make an impact.

The D-I-Y

The hairstyle is actually a simple one to achieve and an easy way out to something that has such a huge impact look wise. Here are the steps:

  1. Brush your hair nicely to ensure it is free of the knots and is neat enough.
  2. Flip your head and gather your hair in a tight ponytail with a band.
  3. Wrap the hair around the tied area and secure it with another band.
  4. One can pin the loose ends to settle the stray strands.
  5. Finish the look with a hair spray that keeps the hair in place and all set.
  6. For a side top knot follow the same steps except for tying the first ponytail at the exact alignment you desire the top knot to be in.

The modern approach to the traditional Indian attires is an absolute fresh approach for the festive season and can be your key to make your mark in the sea of grandeur.
