Bollywood stars are all agog as Lakme Fashion Week 2012 Winter/Festive unfolds in Mumbai. They’re not just turning up to watch the fashion shows they’re stepping right up on to the ramp to wholeheartedly participate in the exciting unveiling of India’s best designers.
Actress and TV presenter Mandira Bedi supported Sapna Bhavnani and Sukriti Grover’s collection – Black Velvet from their label SoFake – on August 4, showcased as part of the TALENT BOX.
Bedi sported a low-cut, full-sleeved black panelled dress with two thigh-high slits down the front. She looked modern, stylish and very edgy, which is what the designers were hoping to impart with their work.
With this collection, they are taking on an issue that is rather controversial in India – the nonsense proliferation of fairness creams. Every single outfit in this collection is, you guessed it, black to portray the beauty, sophistication and timelessness of the color.
Black Velvet is unlike anything seen on the Indian fashion scene. It’s daring, bold, in-your-face and yet highly feminine. It marries Victorian grace with Asian mystery, giving birth to a fusion that can very well hold its own.
